1. About the Company A software and services company specialising in competence management software.
  
They offer systems, training, and consulting to help train operating companies to manage competence-related data, assess risks, handle incidents, and allocate resources effectively.
  
2. Role Overview The Systems Administrator role is crucial to supporting both the development and operations teams. It involves maintaining the software-as-a-service infrastructure provided to train operating customers. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in system administration, automation, documentation, database management, observability, incident response, and mail configuration.
  
3. Responsibilities Key responsibilities include:
  
  • Managing expectations and meeting deadlines.
  • Regularly communicating progress to the Director of Development.
  
4. Skills and Attributes Essential:
  
  • System administration (Ubuntu Linux), command-line tools (e.g., ssh, find, vim, grep, ps).
  • Automation scripting and task scheduling.
  • Documentation of SysAdmin processes and infrastructure/software.
  • Database administration (MariaDB), including server maintenance and user management.
  • Configuring Grafana dashboards, alerts, and Prometheus/Promtail exporters.
  • Incident response and reporting.
  • Mail configuration.
  • Agile development team experience.
  • Problem-solving skills, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Task prioritisation and deadline management.
  
Desirable:
  
  • Experience with documentation tools like Confluence.
  • Knowledge and experience with Python, bash, systemd, and cron.
  • Understanding of DNS.
  • Ability to write SQL queries.
  
5. Location 

The position is based in Guildford at the company's headquarters, with no option for remote work.
  
  
6. Package
  
  • Base Salary: £50k Dependent on experience.
  • 28 days Annual Leave (plus Bank Holidays).
  • 40 hours/week with 1-hour lunch break, all in-office.
